The 6th edition of the 24h of Tremblant surpasses its half million dollar objective!
$707 000 raised for the children and a record number of 1000 participant
Mont-Tremblant, December 10, 2006
The 6th edition of the 24h of Tremblant was a huge success and $707,000 was raised, surpassing the half million objective that was set. With the massive participation of the 135 teams totalising 1000 skiers and snowboarders, the solo performance of Benoit Gagnon, who raised $75,000 alone, and with the incredible support from our partners, the organising committee is happy to say: mission accomplished! Even though nobody got much sleep, the spirits were high when the checks were handed to the beneficiary foundations: the Charles-Bruneau Foundation, the Ottawa Senators Foundation and the Tremblant Foundation.
Dedicated teams give everything they can
Every year, some teams really stand out with their remarkable involvement in the fundraising activities. This time, it's the North Face team that raised the most money, with a contribution of $121,863 to benefit the children. This amazing effort has earned the team a trip to Switzerland with Swiss International Air Lines to participate in the Grand Prix 24h de Villars. Stephen Bronfman's Dirty Dozen came second with $65,000 and 15-17 year-old Slope Runners came third with $50,000. In the performance category, it's the Rossignol team that comes first for the most kilometres travelled during the 24 hours, with a distance of 396 kilometres. They were followed by Max Ski Service team and Jay Peak team.
Everything counts
While the participants were storming down the slopes night and day, many other fundraising activities were going on in the pedestrian village to raise even more money. With their 24 hours of painting, the artists from the Art Gallery had four paintings that sold for a total of $1,000 to the auction. Also, with their Passat Wagon contest that gave the public the chance to win the car for 24 months in addition to the VW Body Tune-up Zone, Volkswagen raised the appreciable amount of $20,000! And TELUS tops it all with $50,000, from their $4 per run donations! Thanks to all these initiatives that brought the record amount of $707,000 to the fundraiser!
The organizing committee would like to extend a heartfelt invitation to all participants, celebrities and to the general public to come and join in the festivities again next, at the 2007 edition of the 24h of Tremblant!
